Moonlight Elementary was recently recognized by State Commissioner Dr. Randy Watson and the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE), as a “Challenge Award” recipient.  The Challenge Awards were created to honor schools that performed well on the state assessments and had high percentages of students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The Challenge Award helps showcase the many positive academic achievements in schools with predominately high-risk populations.

Commissioner Watson stated:

“The Challenge Award is a celebration of the great work being accomplished at Moonlight Elementary and reminds students, staff, and community to continue pushing forward to improve student academic performance and narrow the gap between all subgroups. Moonlight Elementary is honored this year and is doing an exceptional job in these areas.

We are pleased to recognize Moonlight Elementary for outstanding achievements and uncommon accomplishments based on Kansas math and reading assessment results, chronic absenteeism rates, and the socio-economic status of those taking the test.

Kansas is fortunate to have extraordinary educators and administrators whose leadership guides our students to achieve beyond what students themselves thought possible. Congratulations, and thank you for all you do to make Kansas education great.”

The USD 231 Board of Education will recognize Moonlight Elementary during the regularly scheduled meeting on May 6, 2024.
